Don has 28 years experience of teaching Earth Sciences (geochemistry, mineral deposit geology and mineral exploration) and has been working in the area of courseware, e-learning and e-assessment development since 1989.  He is the originator and principal programmer of the powerful and highly interactive TRIADS e-assessment system.

Don has delivered over 80 presentations, seminars and papers on the field of e-assessment since 1990 and was a member of the British Standards IST/43/-/1 committee that drew up the BS7988 Code of Practice that has recently been approved as the International Standard, ISO/IEC DIS 23988 'Code of practice for the use of information technology (IT) in the delivery of assessments’.  He has worked on TLTP courseware, FDTL and JISC e-assessment projects during this time. From 1999 to 2005 Don was head of the Centre for Interactive Assessment Development at the University of Derby which provides a university-wide and complete e-assessment consultancy, production, delivery and results reporting service for all tutors.

Don is currently ‘Senior e-Assessment Research Manager’ in ‘Innovation 4 Learning’ working with clients in education, commerce and the National Health Service where the emphasis is on competency testing and continuing professional development. Don is the originator and programmer of the code engine that powers the BioScope, microscope simulation published by Cambridge-Hitachi and nominated for a BETT award in 2006 and has also produced a number of virtual laboratory e-assessment simulations for Cambridge Assessment.
