Problem
A fledgling network needs to encourage face to face attendance at a meeting by an increasing and widening audience. Although potential participants share a common interest, it is only part of their role and they are limited in the time they can commit and cannot justify coming to a standalone meeting.Context
This applies to any situation where a subset of a community share a common interest. It may not apply if the group who need to meet do not have a wider shared interest.Solution
Organise the meeting to coincide with a larger event of the wider community that potential participants are likely to attend. This adds value to the network event and makes it more likely that people will attend. It may also provide the added benefit that the host event will take on some administrative activities.

The Higher Education Academy works with institutions, individuals and groups and has formed many networks in order to coordinate the work of those groups and discuss and debate. [http://www.heacademy.ac.uk/ourwork/networks] This has also been observed in the HCI Educator's Workshop piggybacking on the HCI Conference for many years until established in its own right.
