Situation
What was the setting in which this case study occurred?
This was a follow-up activity carried out after a storytelling exercise during a workshop for the OpenHabitat project.Task
What was the problem to be solved, or the intended effect?
To draw together the themes of the workshop into a single activity that would allow free-thinking around the issues that had been raised during the storytelling activity. To provide a mechanism for letting other ideas surface that may have been missed during the stories and to ensure that the stories we had gathered covered the major aspects of the domain under inquiry.Actions
What was done to fulfil the task?
All participants (8 in total) were asked to write their top ten tips/guidelines/principles/good practices on post-it notes. In turn each participant placed their post-it notes on the whiteboard and described the contents. This was open to discussion from the other participants if it needed further clarity. As each participant added their post-its they were linked, grouped and themed by concensus. When all the post-its had been added they were recorded and documented and then further analysed to produce a domain map. Results
What happened? Was is a success? What contributed to the outcomes?
This exercise resulted in 80 post-its being ordered and linked. The group discussion over each of the post-its and their placing in relation to either other helped build the initial framework of the domain map.http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3557/3501328108_83266bbfb3.jpg

Lessons Learned
What did you learn from the experience?
This is an excellent group exercise for pulling out issues when there are a broad range of possible themes that can emerge. In a 'new' field such as the use of MUVEs for learning and teaching this worked well as it allowed for brain storming across a whole range of areas and effectively helped build a domain map. The storytelling exercise provided the grounding for the ideas emerging from this activity and helped to anchor the outcomes in real experience.Licensing
